Sarah & Danny were married last fall in a wedding that really, was the perfect end to my 2014 wedding season. They had a small, church wedding, surrounded by their families and friends, at a sweet church in Seattle. Their wedding was full of little details that made it so uniquely them — a cake with a certain star-ship design on it (billed at a 23rd century art deco design, which had me laughing), their favorite books, given out as favors — and it warmed my heart to see them having a wedding that was more about them than what we see on Pinterest.
I don’t ever want my couples to think that they’re not worth my time because they’re having a smaller wedding. I don’t ever want any couple to feel like their wedding doesn’t deserve beautiful images, because I have been told that. Everyone deserves beautiful images of their wedding day. Everyone deserves a day that is about vowing to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. And doing so surrounded by the people you love, in a celebration that echos the love and relationship between the two of you? There is nothing better.
Sarah & Danny, thank you for having me along on your day. I love when a couple reminds me how special marriage is. It is so very special, thank you for that reminder. Sometimes I get used to this – the cake, the vows, the fancy clothes and flowers – but it’s so good to get a reminder that this is an extra special day.
